When I Get Married, These 5 Songs Will be in my Wedding Playlist
First of all, I’m not getting married yet, at least not soon, so please, NO TEASING. Second of all, hello, I’m Josiah, and I was tasked by my sister to blog here today. Don’t worry, she didn’t have to pull my arm and leg, there were no creatures harmed in the making of this blog post. In fact, it got me excited, the idea of myself becoming a “blogger” (dream come true, LOL, kidding). Mostly, I just love talking about music and discovering new songs.
Besides, it’s the weekend! It’s the time of the week when we can set aside work stuff, breathe, listen to music, and talk about things that we love.
So. That said, let’s talk about wedding playlists. (Dun-dun!)
If I ever get married, I’m pretty sure I would spend a lot of time thinking about the songs that would be played on that special day. I think someone’s choice of music says a lot about that person’s story, and surely this principle applies to couples and weddings, too.
Often, the wedding playlist is the last item to be ticked off in the wedding checklist. Many couples set aside this item for later in favor of other seemingly more important wedding details. I honestly think this shouldn’t be the case. I think the wedding playlist should be given more careful thought, especially since music can totally set the mood and add personality to your event.
We know a lot of staple wedding songs, and I’m sure you can think of one at the top of your head. But here are 5 songs that don’t normally make it to wedding playlists maybe because many couples are not aware of their existence:
1. Falling into You by Mae
Composed by one of my most favorite artists ever, Falling into You is an instrumental guitar music he made especially for his own wedding. So much story is embedded in every chord, every rift, of this song. I love that it doesn’t have lyrics, allowing us to create our own story and meaning out of the song to make it our own.
By the way, you’re welcome.
2. My Favorite Book by Stars
I can imagine this song being the soundtrack of a wedding video! Or an SDE, yea?
Ohh, these words:
How I know your face, all the ways you move, you come in, I can read you
You’re my favourite book. All the things you say, the way you shift your eyes
I never knew there was someone, to make me come alive.
3. Melody of You by Sixpence None the Richer
You know, “Kiss Me” is not the only song by Sixpence None the Richer. If you dig in their discography, you’re bound to find something that you’ll keep listening to for days. Like this one, which is a personal favorite. It’s actually a song that’s spiritual in nature, but hey, weddings can use songs about The One who authored love to begin with.
This is my call I belong to You
This is my call to sing the melodies of You
This is my call I can do nothing else
I can do nothing else
4. Simple Starving to be Safe by Daphne Loves Berby
Another indie music that makes you just.. chill.
Also, I love the lyrics:
Oh, how could I survive without your love
And the hope you bring
Oh, even when the sky is falling down
I know I have you and it’s all I need
5. A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay
By now you probably noticed
how cheesy I am that most of these songs are indie, but this last one is more mainstream, and I think it’s perfect for the after-party dancing! Besides, everyone needs a little Chris Martin in his life, yo!
And there you go. My Top 5. How about you? Any unusual song you want to include in your (future) wedding playlist? Let’s share.
Hope you enjoyed soundtrippin’ with me today! Have a great weekend!
