Wedding Throwback: David and Rhiza’s Travel-Themed Wedding
We’re doing another throwback today! Exactly three years ago, on August 13, 2011, Josiah’s Catering and the Versoza family were witnesses to the end of a successful long-distance relationship and the beautiful beginning of the married life of our couple for the week, David and Rhiza.
They met when they were 16 at a leadership camp, and it was then that David first knew that “this girl was going to be a special part of his life.” Migrating to New York with his family in year 2000, his dream of pursuing her became just like that—a mere dream. And yet, somewhere between then and now, amidst the two different worlds they each lived, from New York to Manila and back, these two still ended up with each other.
“When we finally got married, we knew in our hearts that only God is capable of doing such a feat,” the couple recalls. “There was an overflow of love and grace, and we couldn’t have imagined us happening without Someone bigger than ourselves orchestrating every single detail and paving every step of the way.”
With a love story such as theirs, it made a lot of sense to have a travel-themed wedding. Riz personally designed their wedding invitations, their gifts to their principal sponsors (personalized coffee jars), and the post-envelope tags that came with their souvenirs. They both love the color blue, and, unsure what shade to pick, they settled with a combination of different hues of blue to complete their color palette.
Tables are adorned with white, pink, and purple flower bouquets that complemented their wedding motif. Tiny paper airplanes in purple and pink served as centerpiece accents on each table, along with world-map printed glasses that were used as votives for the candles.
“The addition of pink hues was totally Fresh’s idea,” Riz quipped.
She blogged, “I wanted pastels and light colors for our wedding. But when Fresh Versoza, General Manager and resident stylist of Josiah’s Catering (who’s also a good friend of ours), didn’t listen to me and included fuchsia pink in the palette, I was at first, horrified. I told her I wasn’t sure about the fuchsia, but she insisted and promised me that it would look beautiful, and she was right. Looking back now, I’m happy that I let her do her thing. The fuchsia did look pretty—a striking contrast to my blues and purples. And it sure did make for beautiful photographs. Now I wish I could take the credit for it!”
“We specifically loved how they incorporated little details of our story in the table numbers! We love re-telling our love story to our friends, and the staff of Josiah’s made sure to re-tell our love story in their own way too!”
This wedding, in fact, was also the launch of our travel-themed concept design.
Asked what advise to give future brides out there, they had this to say: “You get by with a lot of help from your friends! David flew in from New York one month before our wedding, and we didn’t really have a lot of time and energy to prepare for every single detail. Our cake was lovingly created for us by one of our Ninangs who owns a Sydney-based cake/pastry boutique, Treatbox. Our wedding rings were taken care of by our friends from Matus Jewellery. Our makeup, mine and the entire entourage, was done by my sister-in-law. My wedding dress was made also by a family friend. Our souvenirs were put together by my sisters-in-law and girlfriends. Many of our loved ones from New York and Manila extended their blessings, prayers, love, and support, and we couldn’t be any more grateful. Invite your loved ones to take part not just in your wedding but in your wedding preparations too. After all, they’re going to be your support group long after your wedding day is over.”
“We’re so blessed that we didn’t have to look around for a wedding caterer, we already have one, not only by default but also by choice. We’ve known the Versoza Family long before Josiah’s Catering was established, and this family has been such a blessing to us. Even until now, three years later, Josiah’s Catering is still very much part of our life as a family. From our wedding to our baby shower, to our babies’ dedication and birthday celebrations, Josiah’s Catering has always been there for us. We’re eternally grateful.”
A little trivia: Josiah’s very own Darlene Pendon-Versoza was the recipient of Riz’s wedding bouquet that night. As traditions would have it, Darlene and Jasper were indeed next in line, married one year later. But no, we don’t really believe in superstitions, let’s just say that it was a “happy accident”. ;)
Today David and Rhiza are parents to twin daughters, and are celebrating their 3rd wedding anniversary. And we at Josiah’s Catering are delighted, not only to play a small part in our couples’ weddings, but more so to be part of these couples’ lives.
Happy Anniversary, David and Rhiza! May God bless your married life and your family even more. :)
